This degree pathway is only open to applicants completing our recognised feeder streams who are due to graduate with least at upper Second Class Honours with one of the following qualifications:
A Levels and Scottish Highers
BBB/ABC at A-level or equivalent including Biology and Chemistry
GCSEs and Scottish Nationals
English language or Welsh language at GCSE grade B/6 or equivalent and 8 GCSEs including grade B/6 in GCSE Maths, Biology and Chemistry, or equivalent qualifications (level, subjects and grade)
Personal statement
You must show an awareness of the UK healthcare system and the nature of the medical training in your personal statement and at interview.
Admissions test
You must have taken the UCAT within two-years of applying. We don’t have a minimum threshold score; however, we will use UCAT scores in our application assessment procedure in deciding who to invite to interview.
Interview method
Should you be selected, you will be invited to attend an interview. We use the multiple mini interview (MMI) format, which is a series of short, carefully timed interview stations that you will rotate around in turn. All applicants must attend for interview if invited.

9 GCSE's including GCSE Maths and English Language grade 6 (B), 66 (BB) in Double Science, or 66 (BB) in Biology and Chemistry.
International Baccalaureate
Overall 32 points excluding theory of knowledge and extended essay. Two science subjects from Chemistry, Biology, and either Mathematics or Statistics, but not Mathematical Studies at HL, with 6 being achieved in either Chemistry or Biology. Chemistry or Biology must be offered at SL with score of 7, if not at HL. If Maths and English Language are not offered within the diploma they should be offered as GCSE subjects with at least grade B.
International Baccalaureate

Attained academic qualifications, Level 2, (and Level 3, if offered) are prioritised, but a UCAT tariff will then also be applied should we are oversubscribed with applicants with exceptional academic scores to either help select which applicants to interview or post interview in tie-break situations.
Use (or not) of the UCAT is only be determined each year after we have assessed the academic score of all the applicants.
If we need to use a UCAT cut-off score, we are unable to predict in advance what this score would be as it varies year to year and depends on the scores of applicants that year. Previous year cut-off scores are not helpful.

Work experience
The university recognises that opportunities for work experience will vary according to individual circumstances and that not all applicants are able to gain clinical work experience. Evidence of reflection on experiences gained in a variety of circumstances are welcomed.
Work experience
The academic and non-academic attainment of a candidate will be reviewed against educational performance data and socio-economic background to provide an overview of an applicant's potential. Work experience
Emphasis on applicants being able to show a commitment to caring which can be accomplished in a number of ways other than in a hospital or general practice setting, such as volunteering in an elderly care home, hospice, nursery or helping someone less fortunate. The medical school is also interested in individuals who have shown commitment to working as part of a team over a prolonged period of time in any area, including voluntary, sports, other extra-curricular activities.
This course is designed for graduates of any discipline, and for others who have relevant experience which includes a substantial amount of contact with patients gained as an established health care professional within the NHS or equivalent body (eg RGN, RMN, Physiotherapist) with a qualification recognised by a statutory body.

A degree in applied or experimental science with a degree class of 2.1 or above (or a GPA above 3.5). Graduates in subjects other than bioscience must also have biology or dual-award science at GCSE or O-level, or an equivalent qualification.

Passes at A-level of at least AAB with an A or A* in Chemistry (grade requirements apply if A-levels were taken within the last 5 years; applicants whose exams were taken more than 5 years prior to the year of application are not required to have AAB, although their grades will be assessed carefully at the shortlisting stage).
Scottish applicants must have AAB with an A in Scottish Advanced Higher Chemistry if taken within last 5 years. Applicants with a degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry (2.1 or above) are exempt from this requirement. Applicants may apply in the final year of their degree and must be predicted/achieved at least an upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in any subject. Degrees are divided into three categories.
- Bioscience degrees which contain sufficient Biology and Chemistry – no further A or AS level requirements.
- For science degrees which lack Biology or Chemistry, candidates must have a minimum A or AS level grade C for Biology and/or Chemistry (depending on what is missing in the degree).
- For non-science degrees, candidates must have a minimum B grade in A or AS level Chemistry or Biology, plus one other science also at grade B. Accepted science subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, and Psychology. You may apply with achieved or predicted grades.
Degrees must be completed in the natural length intended for the qualification (generally three years for Bachelors and four years for integrated Masters).
