Full Time (Applications for part time, job-share or secondments will be considered)

Are you looking for a unique opportunity to help shape Health and Care research? Do you have the knowledge and experience to support a broad portfolio of research? Then we want to hear from you………

We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and committed Consultant in Public Health Medicine (CPHM) / Consultant in Public Health (CPH) to join us to provide support to National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) research programmes and contribute to the delivery of the NIHR strategy.

Who are we?

We are an NIHR Coordinating Centre, hosted within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton. The NIHR funds, enables and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. Our research turns discoveries into new or improved treatments, diagnostics, medical technologies and health and care services. The NIHR is also a major funder of applied health research in low and middle-income countries.

What is the role?

This role is quite unique, providing support and contributing to NIHR research programmes that deliver the evidence to improve health and care across the UK and low and middle-income countries. We work closely with leading academics, senior policy makers, clinicians, patients and the public to ensure the research we fund is important and will make a difference.

This post is a senior post with a high level of responsibility, the postholder will be part of the Coordinating Centre Senior Leadership Group. The planned responsibilities of this post lie largely within the NIHR research programmes that we manage, providing CPHM / CPH leadership and support to all aspects of the research we fund across the whole research lifecycle from identifying research topics all the way through to publication.

Who are we looking for?

This is a technically challenging role and applicants will need to demonstrate and provide evidence in their application that they have the necessary knowledge and experience to support the full breadth of clinical research that the Coordinating Centre funds.

You will also demonstrate you can:

  • Provide agile and flexible leadership across our current research programmes as required
  • As part of a team provide support to the significant ongoing portfolio of active studies
  • Work both as part of a team as well as work effectively under your own initiative
  • Be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work
  • Apply public health principles in delivering your roles

It is essential you are a CPHM/CPH with Faculty of Public Health membership or be a Public Health Specialty Trainee on a recognised specialty training programme who is at the appropriate point in their training to be eligible to apply.

A standard/enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

Ensuring staff have a good work/life balance is important to us. We offer a generous holiday allowance, hybrid working and access to great development opportunities.
