The NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC) is part of the School of Healthcare Enterprise and Innovation in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton. NETSCC is the largest externally funded contract held within the School, and is located on the University of Southampton Science Park, Chilworth.

This new Consultant in Public Health Medicine post is a senior post with a high level of responsibility, the postholder will be part of the NETSCC Senior Leadership Group. The planned responsibilities of this post lie largely within the NIHR research programmes that NETSCC manages. The NETSCC managed NIHR research programmes can include research in any aspect of all specialties of clinical medicine and the postholder will need to be medically qualified to ensure they have the necessary medical training and ability to understand the technical elements of medicine across all such specialties.

The post will provide medical and public health medicine leadership to the identification, prioritisation and funding of important research questions, across health, public health and social care, as well as providing support to monitoring the delivery of the research commissioned through to publication in the NIHR Journals Library. This is a technically challenging role that will require the postholder to draw upon a varied breadth of medical knowledge and understanding on a day-to-day basis.

Duties in other parts of NETSCC may be required in future, as agreed through the job planning process with the successful candidate and depending on their interests and skills. There will also be additional opportunities to contribute to cross-NIHR initiatives.

We are looking for a Consultant in Public Health Medicine, or a medically qualified Public Health Specialty Trainee who is at the appropriate point in their training to be eligible to apply, with the necessary medical and public health medicine knowledge, skills and expertise who can support these NIHR research programmes. Applicants must be highly motivated and strongly committed to public health principles, who can be flexible and adaptable, who can work as part of a team and is also able to work effectively under their own initiative.

The successful candidate will work extensively in collaboration with partners and key stakeholders within and outside the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the NIHR strategy and the NIHR Research Programmes.
