Applications are sought for an exciting opportunity within our innovative undergraduate medical course.  You will take a lead role supporting our clinical assessment activity (OSCEs). This role requires extensive professional experience in clinical assessment and will have over-arching responsibility for the quality of OSCEs across years 1-5 overseeing and supporting our OSCE leads.  As deputy Head of Assessment, you will also deputise for the Head of Assessment as needed.  The post holder will support our quality assurance activities with respect to assessment with reference to internal University processes and external processes, specifically those relating to the GMC.
This role is open to applications from any of the following clinically trained applicants:
  • GMC registered physicians on the UK Specialist register holding a licence to practise – Clinical scale
  • GMC registered GPs on the GMC GP register & a UK GP performers list holding a licence to practise – Clinical scale
  • Either of the above individuals who have previously been on the Specialist Register or GP register and have maintained their GMC registration but have now retired from active clinical practice – Associate Professor G9
The appointment is available to those holding a substantive post with a University partner hospital, or a GP within a partner GP practice, or a University clinical academic holding an honorary Consultant contract with a University partner hospital or GP practice.

Applications may also be considered from other clinically trained applicants in categories 1 or 2 above who are able to secure and evidence clinical activity funded by one of the University of Leicester partner organisations prior to commencement.

This post will be paid on the Clinical consultant scale for applicants in active clinical service or at grade 9 £53,348 to £60,022 pro rata for clinically trained applicants no longer undertaking active clinical service.

The role may be undertaken on a job share basis with less than 5 PAs and applicants are required to state the number of PAs they wish to be considered for.

Those applying within Category 1 or 2 above should ensure that they have discussed their application with their relevant Head of Service or GP practice prior to application. If offered the post the activity must be incorporated into your job plan before the post is formally accepted. The post will be subject to satisfactory educational appraisal.

Acute clinicians will be remunerated via their substantive NHS employer’s payroll, although where 4 or 5 PAs are undertaken consideration may be given by the University and NHS employer to direct employment by the University with a recharge to the NHS for clinical work undertaken.

GPs and those undertaking as an Associate Professor grade 9 will be employed directly by the University.

Consultants on the 2003 contract and GPs will be remunerated at a rate equivalent to 10% of their seniority on the consultant salary scale. This will not be uplifted at APA rates. The expectation is that the job plan will not exceed 12PA.

Those remaining in NHS employment will be considered for the title of Honorary Senior Lecturer where an honorary title or substantive academic post is not already held.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 because the appointee will have substantial access to young people and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, an appointment to this post will be subject to checking and appropriate clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The successful applicant for this post will, therefore, be required to give consent for the University to check with the DBS for the existence and content of any criminal record in the form of an Enhanced with adult and child workforce and adult and child barred list Disclosure. Information received from the DBS and the police will be kept in strict confidence and will be destroyed once the University is satisfied in this regard.
