Clinical Research Fellow in Diabetes

Clinical Research Fellow in Diabetes

University of Leicester

We are recruiting two Clinical Research Fellows in Diabetes. These posts will be funded by the lifestyle theme of the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre. You will support translational studies in diabetes research. The primary project is to investigate how exercise and diet interventions interact with newer classes of glucose lowering therapies in the prevention or management of type 2 diabetes. We hypothesise that exercise and diet work in synergy with some medications whilst being counter-productive in others. We aim to test these empirically in order to provide patients with evidence-based recommendations for maximising their metabolic health.

You will be responsible for designing study protocols and providing medical oversight once studies are running, particularly in relation to the dose and type of prescribed therapies and participant safety during exercise testing and training.

The successful candidate will be will be based at Leicester General Hospital, working in state of the art research facilities.

This post is most suited to a specialist trainee (ST3 or above) in Diabetes and Endocrinology.  Previous research and evidence of publication are advantageous.  You must be a registered medical practitioner holding a licence to practice and possessing MRCP or equivalent. You will be expected to participate in a generic postgraduate training programme. During their tenure the successful candidate will be expected to take up a post graduate research degree (MD or PhD) within the Diabetes Research Centre and participate in generic postgraduate research training at the University of Leicester.
