ATR1494 Clinical Senior Lecturers in Translational & Clinical Medicine

Norwich Medical School

4 x Clinical Senior Lecturer Posts in Translational and Clinical Medicine jointly funded by Norwich Medical School (MED) and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals (NNUH) NHS Trust

We are delighted to be able to offer opportunities for four Clinical Senior Lecturer Posts in Translational and Clinical Medicine jointly funded by UEA’s Norwich Medical School and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust (NNUH). These appointees will expand our burgeoning research themes, contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, and strengthen the clinical-academic base and the collaboration between Norwich Medical School and NNUH. Appointment will be at the Clinical Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) level. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and lead a programme of translational and/or clinical research in one of the following priority areas:

  • Cardiovascular and cardio-metabolic science
  • Endocrinology and diabetes
  • Epidemiology and public health/health services research
  • Gastroenterology (medical and surgical)
  • Haematology
  • Histopathology
  • Medical microbiology/infectious diseases
  • Mental illness, including neurodegeneration
  • Musculoskeletal disease
  • Neurology
  • Radiology
  • Respiratory disease

Successful applicants will be expected to carry out independent, high quality, externally funded research, aimed at improving our understanding of medical science and its translation into public health and/or clinical benefit.  We aim to recruit excellent clinicians who will play an active part in their respective departments, complementing the comprehensive service provision that already exists across the Trust.  Successful applicants will be expected to contribute fully to the activities of the hospital through their NHS Honorary Consultant appointments.

Applicants will be considered primarily on the basis of personal excellence, but it is essential that their research direction accords with the research needs of the Medical School AND that they have clinical skills in one of the areas for which matched NHS funding exists.

Applicants should have MRCP(UK)/FRCPath/FRCR/FRCS and a PhD, or the international equivalents, and have obtained a Certificate of Completion of Training or be within six months of acquiring it. Appointees will be employed by UEA with a joint honorary NHS contract.

Norwich Medical School at the University of East Anglia was formed in 2001 and has an excellent reputation for its teaching and student experience.  The research base is steadily growing with strong roots in medical microbiology, nutrition, musculoskeletal disease, public health and major recent investments in gastroenterology and dementia research. The Quadram Institute houses the largest endoscopy/colonoscopy facility in Europe and has strong links with the major research base in the Medical School. The number of non-clinical academic posts is also showing steady growth.

NNUH is a busy 1100 bed teaching hospital providing for a catchment area of around 800,000 patients. It has an excellent clinical reputation and has a research portfolio of some 360 current studies.

UEA and NNUH benefit from being core parts of the Norwich Research Park (NRP), which includes three BBSRC-funded research institutes: the Quadram Institute Biosciences (QIB), the John Innes Centre, and the Earlham Institute.  The close proximity of our NRP partners facilitates excellent working relationships and cross-fertilisation of research ideas, exemplified by the creation of the £85m multidisciplinary Quadram Institute.

These appointments will be subject to an enhanced criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

These posts are available immediately on an indefinite basis and may be full or part-time.
