MBBS Leadership role of Curriculum Mapping - 2PAs for 1 year

University College London

On behalf of Professor Deborah Gill, the Director of UCL Medical School, and Dr Will Coppola, the Divisional Tutor for the MBBS, we're pleased to invite expressions of interest for a one year MBBS leadership role to lead a project to review and align the MBBS curriculum with the GMC’s newly released Outcome for Graduates and to develop an electronic presentation for students.

This role carries a 0.2 FTE/2 PA commitment to review the current curriculum, core conditions and practical presentations and procedures and to map the curriculum in an electronic presentation for students, working in collaboration with the MBBS Learning Technologist and Clinical Teaching Fellows.

The role is suitable for academic or clinical staff and the 0.2 FTE/2 PAs are to be incorporated into academic contracts or NHS job plans at rates commensurate with current position.  Our SLMS Deans ask that university employees discuss their intention to apply with their Divisional or Institute Director before submitting an expression of interest or, where there is delegated authority, with their Head of Research Department, as their agreement will be required for an appointment to be made. Trust employees should similarly discuss their application with the appropriate manager responsible for their job planning.

The agreed MBBS leadership rate is £120k per FTE per annum and will be allocated to the host Division / Institute of the member of staff, for salary backfill purposes, and does not form a personal incentive.  This role is 0.2 FTE and therefore attracts £24k of funding.

The role outline and personal specification are given below.  This appointment is for one year in the first instance. The Medical School is seeking to make an appointment to start ASAP in September 2018.

Role Outline:

o   To lead on curriculum mapping and development to align with the GMC’s new Outcomes for Graduates, including refocussing, replacing and removing content where required; inclusion of a broader curriculum of learning activities beyond formal learning events; and enhanced mapping of aspects of professionalism

o   To support both the lead CTF for this project and other contributors in draft mapping

o   To oversee module and year leads in managing a cross-checking and ILO refresh process with module contributors; in  negotiating anticipated change with stakeholders;  and in implementation - including ‘placeholder’ mapping’ to track the roll out of new/reviewed activity

o   To provide support to the MBBS Programme Lead and her senior leadership team in the strategic direction and development of the undergraduate programme

  • To lead a project to map the curriculum to Outcomes for Graduates in an electronic presentation:  collaborating with the MBBS IT Systems and Learning Technologist on the creation of a Curriculum Mapping Visualisation tool for students, faculty and academic support staff

o   To implement the Curriculum Mapping Visualisation tool as an aid to curriculum planning and the content of assessments

o   To establish a database of course syllabi and ILOs for students with consistent formatting and a documented process for ongoing maintenance

o   To ensure detailed documentation of the curriculum mapping process

o   To establish a programme for Clinical Teaching Fellows and other faculty developers to deliver training for the Curriculum Mapping Visualisation Tool

o   To develop a mechanism for learners to check their progress against intended module and programme level learning outcomes
