We will only accept the Access to HE Diploma (Medicine) that conforms to the QAA subject descriptor from 2022 entry onwards. This must be studied in a face to face full time educational setting over one year. These changes are in line with other medical schools who are deciding to use this standardised QAA approved qualification.
As the purpose of the Diploma is to provide academic preparation for higher education study for adults who, because of social, educational or individual circumstances may have achieved few, if any, prior qualifications we will NOT accept applications from people who have:
- achieved below 2i in a previous degree unless there is evidence of substantial subsequent experience in a healthcare-based or academically and/or professionally demanding career
- commenced an Access diploma less that 3 years after completing A levels, other qualifications or a degree
Non-medicine Access to HE diplomas (e.g. Access to HE Science) will not be considered.
The credit requirement for the achievement of any Access to HE Diploma is 60 credits, with 45 of these credits coming from units which are concerned with academic subject content at Level 3 and graded; the remaining 15 credits come from ungraded Level 2 or Level 3 units. All units (60 credits) must be passed, with all graded level 3 units at distinction.
A minimum of 6 GCSEs at grade A* to C (9-4) are also required including English Language, Maths and 2 science subjects. This is in line with other widening participation route entry requirements.
