As part of its commitment to delivering high quality clinical placements to medical students, St George's NHS University Hospitals Foundation trust and the University wish to appoint a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Neurology. This replacement post will commence in August 2022 for 12 months. The post is ideal for someone considering, or already pursuing a career in any clinical neuroscience speciality (Neurology, neurosurgery, stroke rehabilitation, neurophysiology). Regular Monday-Friday hours. Clinical element (one session/week), will be tailored to the successful candidates’ needs, including the potential for additional funded clinical sessions commensurate with experience with St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.Salary CT3-ST8 Depending on experience. Applicants must have MRCP or equivalent, but welcome from all levels beyond this. 

Applicants should demonstrate broad clinical experience and must hold full MRCP / MRCS (including PACES) or equivalent. The post is ideal for someone considering, or already pursuing a career in any clinical neuroscience speciality (Neurology, neurosurgery, stroke rehabilitation, neurophysiology). Applicants with experience in teaching and a wish to continue a career in academic medicine would be preferred. The post is suitable for those aiming for speciality training numbers, or as an out of programme experience for those already in speciality training.  If the successful applicant does not already hold a teaching qualification or equivalent, they will be expected to apply for a place on the St George’s, University of London Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare and Biomedical Education (PGCert HBE), a 12 month teaching in higher education course commencing in October 2022.

Applicants are invited to apply for the post which includes teaching undergraduate medical students, contributing to formative and summative assessments, and supporting senior staff in curriculum development and quality assurance. In addition to on campus skills sessions, and regular ward based bedside teaching, this now includes ongoing development and delivery of a blended clinical sciences and clinical placement model combining remote activities with those onsite. A blended model is now well embedded in our curriculum, experienced e-learning and educational technology teams and the staff in the Centre for Clinical Education. This is an exciting time to join with additional curriculum development work ongoing to ensure mapping to the forthcoming GMC national Medical Licensing Assessment, and the implementation of a new Curriculum Management System to support staff and students. More than 60% of the post-holder’s time will be spent on undergraduate teaching, with the remainder of the week for professional development including developing educational skills, a fixed clinical session, and research, educational or service improvement projects as appropriate for the individual goals. Candidates at Core Training and above with relevant clinical neurosciences experience, an interest in undergraduate medical education are encouraged to apply. The clinical element (one session/week), typically with duties at CT2-ST8 level commensurate with experience, will be tailored to the successful candidates’ needs, including the potential for additional funded clinical sessions commensurate with experience with St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post is not accredited for specialist training but support for study leave will be given. Therefore, post holders are encouraged to complete audit and research projects and to submit papers / posters. 

The salary for this role will be £39,698 to £43,828 plus £2,162 London allowance (CT3/ST2-ST8, Post 2009 Clinical Lecturer scale, nodal point 3 – 5, depending on experience).
