Updated guidance on Access to Medicine courses

18.06.20

Not everyone's route to medical school is the same. While many medical students start their degrees straight from school or college, others choose to study medicine after taking an extended period out of full time education. By bringing different life experiences and skills with them, mature students can make excellent doctors. However, these applicants can often find it difficult to find appropriate guidance on Access courses that fulfil the entry requirements for medicine.

For this reason, the Medical Schools Council has updated its guidance on Access courses and has released a new infosheet for mature students considering taking an Access course. The newly updated guidance covers the entry requirements, course content and required outcomes and standards for Access courses.

Prospective applicants can search to see which Access diplomas medical schools accept by filtering by requirements using our entry requirements search tool.
