Statement on UKFPO decision to remove Educational Achievements from the Foundation ranking process

The Medical Schools Council (MSC) strongly opposes the UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO) and Medical and Dental Recruitment and Selection (MDRS) Programme Board’s decision to remove Educational Achievement (EA) points from the 2023 Foundation Programme allocation process.

MSC’s position

  • EA points should remain part of the allocation process to support academic development and fairness.
  • At minimum, the change should be delayed until 2024 to avoid penalising current students.
  • MSC urges UKFPO and MDRS to engage in dialogue to find fairer solutions and demonstrate respect for future NHS doctors.
