This publication provides advice for applicants preparing for medical school interviews. It outlines the different formats used by UK medical schools, including face-to-face and online interviews, and offers practical guidance on how to prepare effectively.
What to expect
Most medical schools will continue to hold interviews online, though a few may invite applicants to attend in person. Interview formats vary and may include:
- Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) – a series of short stations, either in person or in virtual rooms
- Panel interviews – a single interview with a group of assessors
- Asynchronous interviews – you record your answers to questions on screen without live interaction
Your invitation will explain which format your interview will follow.
How to prepare
There are lots of ways to get ready:
- visit the MSC Interview Preparation website for tips and videos
- try a mock MMI with help from a teacher or adviser
- read the MSC’s guides on online and asynchronous interviews
- practise speaking clearly and confidently, especially if recording answers on camera
Top tips
- Check your interview format and platform in advance.
- Practise answering questions to time.
- Dress professionally and choose a quiet, neutral background if online.
- Ask for help from your school or careers adviser if you need support.
