Brunel University, in collaboration with Imperial College London, is delighted to host the Medical Summer School 2026, an exciting opportunity designed specifically for up to 50 students from widening participation backgrounds who aspire to study medicine or pursue a career in healthcare. This unique programme combines a series of engaging online sessions with an immersive residential experience, offering participants a real insight into what it takes to become a medical professional in today’s NHS.
Applications are now open and will close on 30 November 2025.
The Summer School begins with five one-hour online webinars, held in the months leading up to the residential. These interactive sessions will cover key topics such as the journey to becoming a doctor, an introduction to the UCAT admissions test, an overview of the NHS and its values, financial support for medical students, and guidance on preparing for Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). Delivered by Brunel and Imperial academics, and current medical students, these webinars will help Year 12 students build confidence, enhance their understanding of the medical application process, and develop valuable skills ahead of their university applications.
Following the online preparation, students will attend a 3-night residential experience hosted at Brunel University’s vibrant campus in Uxbridge, from Tuesday 4 August to Friday 7 August 2026. During this exciting stay, students will enjoy a packed schedule of activities including a welcome session and campus tour, team-based learning (TBL) taster sessions, and clinical skills rotations, where they will have the chance to practise hands-on techniques in a simulated medical environment. There will also be dedicated sessions with the admissions and widening participation teams, offering advice on personal statements, work experience, and interview preparation.
A highlight of the programme will be a visit to Imperial College London, where students will explore one of the UK’s leading medical schools. This visit will include opportunities to tour Imperial’s cutting-edge medical teaching facilities, meet current medical students, and take part in interactive workshops and discussions that showcase life as a medical student at a world-class institution.
Beyond academic enrichment, the summer school places a strong emphasis on community, wellbeing, and personal development. Students will have the chance to meet and connect with like-minded peers from across the UK, forming lasting friendships through fun social events and evening activities organised throughout the residential. These might include icebreaker games, movie nights, sports sessions, and a closing celebration event to mark the end of the programme.
The Brunel Medical Summer School offers an inspiring, hands-on experience for aspiring doctors, providing insight, skills, and support to help students take their next step towards a future in medicine.
