Senior Lecturer in Global Mental Health

The Hull York Medical School and the Department of Health Sciences, University of York are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Global Mental Health. The Medical School and the University of York have an ambitious programme to expand leadership and expertise in global health research, with significant new investment in research and teaching posts, including two Senior Lecturers/Readers, a Lecturer, and Doctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships in Global Health. The programme has been accelerated by recent success in securing three NIHR Global Health Research Groups, focusing on mental and physical multimorbidity, tobacco control and health econometric and economic evidence informed policy. The present post is part of this investment.
The Role
To carry out internationally outstanding research and scholarship; to have a track record in global mental health research and in building international research collaborations to address key knowledge gaps and support evidence based mental health policy and practice in developing countries; to be conversant with the range of methods used in population health, and mental health services research and have expertise and established track record in one or more of the following areas of research: trials, epidemiology, large datasets, implementation science, policy research, health economics, observational studies, systematic reviews or evidence synthesis; to provide senior-level leadership in the teaching of mental health and/or global health and support and mentor junior academic colleagues in order to promote quality of research and teaching and career development; to undertake specific departmental roles and management functions as may be reasonably required by the Dean of the Medical School or the Head of Department in Health Sciences.
Key responsibilities
You will have a PhD in a related subject or equivalent experience with a proven ability to develop high quality research in applied global mental health research, along with demonstrated ability to attract competitive research funding, lead and manage projects and generate high quality research outputs.
You should have relevant teaching experience with the ability to design and implement interesting and engaging teaching across our curriculum, both undergraduate and postgraduate. You should be willing to make applications for external funding and undertake specific departmental roles and management functions as may be reasonably required by the Dean of the Medical School or the Head of Department in Health Sciences.
Candidates interested in generating new knowledge on prevention and management of mental and physical multimorbidity in low-and middle-income countries are particularly welcome.
The Hull York Medical School brings together the strengths of the Universities of Hull and York in the life, clinical, health and social sciences. It works closely with other departments in both Universities and many staff are embedded in jointly managed academic centres in host departments. For this post, the successful candidate will work within the Centre for Health and Population Sciences (CHaPS) in the Department of Health Sciences, University of York.
