A Levels

Grades AAA at A level taken within five academic years prior to the year of entry to include Chemistry or Biology; and one of either Biology, Chemistry, Maths or Physics, plus one other.

Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers

Advanced Highers: ABB from Scottish Advanced Highers with grades AB to come from Biology and/or Chemistry and another science subject.

Must be taken within five academic years prior to the year of entry.

International Baccalaureate

A minimum of 36 points is accepted. 666 at Higher Level in Biology and/or Chemistry plus one other science and including Mathematics or English.

T levels

T Levels:
Distinction (with a minimum grade A in the core component and minimum merit in specialism) in Health or Healthcare Science, taken within five academic years prior to the time of application.

National 5 Grade B or above or GCSE grade B (5) or above in English Language, two science subjects and Maths.

Access courses

Access to HE Diplomas:

We accept any QAA accredited Access to Higher Education Diploma (Medicine) qualification. Applicants must have achieved 60 credits with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 of which at least 30 Level 3 credits must be at Distinction and, in addition 15 Level 3 credits must be at a minimum of Merit. The further 15 ungraded credits can be a combination of Level 2 and 3.

Access qualifications should be awarded within five years prior to the year of entry applied for. A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grades A*-B (9-6) are also required including English Language, Maths and two science subjects. Applicants are encouraged to check with their educational provider that their qualification meets the necessary criteria for admission to the medical programme.

We also accept the Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) Pre Medical Studies, Institute of Continuing Education, University of Cambridge.

Teaching method

We offer an integrated clinical and pre-clinical medicine course that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience from the outset. The course emphasises early clinical exposure and community-based learning.

Resit policy

A Level resit grades at AAA will be accepted within five academic years prior to the time of application (at first sitting applicants should have achieved AAB or BBB for a Widening Access to Medicine (WAMS) application).

Clinical work experience is not mandatory. We consider all forms of work experience where you will have gained transferable skills such as communication, problem solving, care, working with others and professionalism.

Widening participation criteria

You must:

  • Have a permanent right or indefinite leave to remain in the UK, or have been granted settled or pre-settled status through the EU Settlement Scheme, and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the three years prior to the start of the course
  • Not have undertaken or started another degree prior to applying

And either:

  • Are a Care Leaver or have been Care Experienced* for a period of longer than 3 months within the last 5 years
  • Have attended a school for GCSEs which has an attainment 8 score (in England) below the national average

Or attended a non-selective state school for GCSEs and A-levels and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Live in an area with an Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) in the bottom 20%
  • In receipt of free school meals, Pupil Premium funding and/or discretionary school/college payments, which are directly linked to financial hardship
  • You or your parent(s)/guardian(s) are in receipt of means tested benefits**
  • You are a person who has sole unpaid caring responsibility for another person
  • You are in receipt of a UCAT bursary
  • You have refugee status
  • You are a young person who is estranged from your family
  • You are a member of the Gypsy, Traveller, Roma, Showmen or Boater community (GTRSB)
  • You are a Service Child, where your parent or carer currently serves in the UK Armed Forces
