The UKMED Research Subgroup and the purpose of this role

The role provides an opportunity for an experienced researcher in the area of medical education and and training to contribute to the work of the UKMED Research Subgroup.

The UKMED Research Subgroup’s key remit is to assess research proposals against agreed criteria, and review findings to advise the UKMED Strategy Board on their quality and alignment with objectives. It also helps prioritise research topics, identifies funding opportunities, promotes UKMED research, and advises on overall research strategy and processes. Skills and experience

UKMED is seeking an experienced data scientist:

    1. With strong understanding of methodological and quantitative analytical approaches to research into medical education, training and workforce
    2. Who has an understanding of the trainee pathway from application to medical school to working as a career grade doctor
    3. Who has experience in reviewing of quantitative research
    4. Who has an understanding of the aims of UKMED
    5. Supports equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) by promoting fair and inclusive practices within review process.

Are there any other criteria for the appointment?

As UKMED is committed to transparent research, applicants must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Support of UKMED’s intention to continue to publish research and online reports which identify organisations that manage medical education and
  • A willingness to represent the interests of UKMED at national groups such as COPMeD, the MSC and GMC boards.

Details of the appointment

You will need to commit to attend two UKMED Research Subgroup meetings a year. In addition, you will score and review applications and project reports quarterly.

If the applicant is willing there is the potential to represent UKMED by speaking at conferences to promote its potential.

UKMED is seeking to appoint a member for a minimum term of 3 years with possible extension.

This is a voluntary role. Travel expenses will be covered in line with the MSC Expenses Policy expenses (up to £250 per meeting, if outside of London).
