Information for displaced students

This page provides information for displaced medical students whose education has been disrupted, including options for continuing learning remotely.

Continuing your course online

We are aware that medical schools in conflict zones or areas experiencing natural disasters may wish to continue educating their medical students online where the delivery of face-to-face education is not possible. The MSC may be able to support your medical school by providing access to Speaking Clinically, an online resource featuring videos of patients sharing their experiences with a wide range of medical conditions.

Transfers to a UK medical school

Unfortunately, medical students cannot transfer into existing medical or dental courses in the UK. These places are strictly limited and regulated by the UK Government. Transferring students who have studied overseas also presents challenges, including recognising prior learning, aligning curricula, and addressing varied academic and support needs.

However, the University of Leicester Medical School has recently piloted an initiative (based on initial work with the University of Cape Town) to host displaced medical students, akin to an extended elective, towards continuation of their studies with their home schools.

Students would need to maintain an ongoing connection with their home school, where they will continue their academic progression and graduate, while fulfilling the learning requirements set by the host school.
