Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow

Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow

University of Leicester

This new role will see you, as a Senior CTF, working across Leicester Medical School (LMS), our School of Biological Sciences and Chongqing Medical University (CQMU) to support delivery of our new Joint Educational Programme (JEP) of a Bachelors in Clinical Sciences (both in the UK and as part of a clinical medical degree in CQMU).

On starting as a Senior CTF (CQMU), you will begin to work with two to three LMS Unit Leads and liaise with the equivalent Units’ Leads in CQMU towards (supported) delivery of these Units in CQMU next academic year (2021-22). One of these Units will be the clinical histopathology focussed ‘Pathological Processes’ (and if full-time another of your choosing in discussion with the Director of the JEP).

You will be a part of a flying faculty team spending up to a maximum of 12 weeks (4-5 weeks if 0.5 FTE, though you would be full-time during this period) in CQMU each year, organised in blocks of time, typically of four weeks (maximum of 5 weeks) working with LMS and CQMU colleagues to deliver and support delivery of aspects of your Units, as well as engaging in broader aspects of educational development, e.g. providing training in small group facilitation based on your previous experience in a teaching fellow type role.

As a Senior CTF you will also provide some support to newly commencing CTFs in post on 1 September 2021, whilst continuing – when in Leicester - to teach undergraduate medical students, mainly in the first two years of their course.

These roles will continue to provide a training opportunity for you to develop teaching and clinical educational skills; the opportunity to continue to gain a teaching qualification for the Higher Education sector (for which you will have protected time); and to provide experience for a possible future role in medical education (we will support your development towards a lectureship if this is something you wish to pursue).
We are looking for an excellent candidate for this post who has a PhD / MB ChB or equivalent, with previous lecture and small group teaching experience in higher education (preferably medical education). You will also also have experience/be able to demonstrate an interest in histopathology, and the ability to interpret macroscopic and histological images and relate these to pathological disease processes
