The Beit Trust's Medical Elective Bursaries are available for students undertaking medical electives in southern Africa between 1 April of each year and 1 April of each following year.
Around 20 bursaries, of approximately £700–1000 per student, may be offered to selected applicants.
In order to be eligible, students must undertake a minimum of six weeks (preferably longer) in Zimbabwe or Malawi, or a minimum of ten weeks in Zambia. Electives in these countries offer a great opportunity to experience how healthcare is delivered in resource-poor southern Africa. Students can help make a difference in these hospitals and to the lives of those living in the communities that the hospitals serve.
The Beit Trust is particularly keen to encourage more applicants to undertake their medical elective in Zimbabwe. Since elective costs in Zimbabwe are sometimes higher than in other countries, larger grants may be awarded.
The application window for electives taking place between 1st April 2018 and 1st April 2019 is now closed. Please check back at the end of the year to download the application pack for electives taking place between 1st April 2019 and 1st April 2020. If you have any questions about the application process please contact Emma Horan on firstname.lastname@example.org
