Black History Month

October marks Black History Month in the UK. Black History is still widely underrepresented in the mainstream, with the achievements of Black people often overlooked. Unfortunately, this is also the case in the field of medical education, with a colonial lens often applied to the development of the field. Whilst the MSC EDI Alliance is working to address this and was established with the aim of achieving equity for all at medical school, it must be acknowledged that there are still barriers faced by Black staff and students and longstanding issues to be addressed, such as the representation of Black academics and student attainment gaps.

For Black History Month, the MSC EDI Alliance asked students and staff if they would like to share their reflections through blog posts. They will be available as they are released:

A Reflection: Decolonising the Curriculum Project - Kike Solanke, Leicester Medical School

Complementing awareness with action: A collaborative effort for change in medicine - Ololade Tijani, Leicester Medical School

LGBTQ+ History Month

For LGBTQ+ History Month, the MSC EDI Alliance asked students and staff if they would like to share their reflections through blog posts. They will be available as they are released:

LGBTQ+ inclusion and representation at medical schools: The importance of role models - Eleanor Townsend
