A statement from the Medical Schools Council on supporting Ukrainian medical schools and their students

22.03.22

The Medical Schools Council (MSC) deplores the aggression in Ukraine and will seek to do all it can to assist Ukrainian universities and to support their students in continuing their studies. MSC has been working closely with Government Departments, the General Medical Council, NHS training bodies and Universities UK’s International Unit to determine how assistance can be made available.

Universities in Ukraine are striving to maintain the education of their students under extremely challenging conditions  and some students have been placed in medical schools in neighbouring countries. The Ukrainian medical schools are very concerned not to lose their students and doctors who will be essential to rebuilding health services in the country after the conflict.  MSC is making electronic learning materials available to these universities, such as Speaking Clinically, to help students maintain their skills and continue their education remotely. MSC is also looking at ways of supporting final year medical students in the delivery of their Ukrainian exams.

We are currently in the process of devising a coordinated response to support medical universities and their students in Ukraine. We understand this is a very distressing time for many people, and MSC will share the most up-to-date information and guidance as soon as it is available. Our thoughts are with those affected by the war in Ukraine.
