Clinical Fellow (ICGNMD) - 5453

Newcastle University

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a clinical research project in a world-renowned centre for research in neuromuscular or mitochondrial disease. You will be appointed as part of the MRC funded International Centre for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Diseases (ICGNMD) and will be based in the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre or the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research in Newcastle University. The ICGNMD is an international project to better understand the genetic basis of human neuromuscular and mitochondrial disease and involves partners in Brazil, South Africa, India and Turkey. You will have access to phenotypic and genetic data from thousands of international and UK patients and the opportunity to develop a PhD project that links with a collaborating overseas centre and/or colleagues in London (UCL) and Cambridge. There will be a choice of PhD projects spanning mitochondrial diseases, muscular dystrophies, spinal muscular atrophy, inherited neuropathies, channelopathies and congenital myopathies. You will gain a comprehensive training in neuromuscular and mitochondrial disease and are most likely to approach this opportunity from a clinical background in adult medicine (neurology), paediatrics or clinical genetics.

The post is full time, fixed term basis for 3 years.
