Language testing
All non-native English speakers are required to take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), which is designed to assess the language ability of those candidates wishing to study in an English-speaking country.

IELTS is managed by the British Council, the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations and IDP: IELTS Australia. The test is comprised of four modules; listening, reading, writing and speaking, taking 2 hours and 45 minutes in total. The listening, reading and writing components are completed in one sitting, however, the speaking aspect of the test may be taken up to seven days before or after the other tests. This will depend on the individual test centre.

There are two versions of IELTS – the Academic test and the General Training test. You will need to complete the Academic test as this is for those who want to study in an English-speaking country.

You can take the test in over 500 locations worldwide and there is a set fee for taking the test. For more information and to find out the cost in your local currency, as well as where your nearest centre is, visit the IELTS website
