Specialties

If you are still unsure which specialty you would like to pursue, some information can be found on the left hand side

There are a wide range of medical specialties and there is something for everyone. Different specialties will suit different personalities and you will need to consider which one will suit you best. Some of you may know which specialty you want to go into already, however, many of you will find this decision making process more complex.

The information provided on this section of the website is just an introduction to the different specialties and you will need to do a considerable amount of research into what each of these involves and the different career pathways. Careers information will be given to you at medical school, but it is always useful to carry out research before entering medical school to help you confirm whether this really is the career pathway you would like to follow.

The different specialties are split into the following categories and can be found using the links on the left hand side:

• Anaesthetics
• General Practice
• Medicine
• Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• Ophthalmology
• Paediatrics and Child Health
• Pathology
• Psychiatry
• Radiology
• Surgery

For each of the useful links, we have tried to ensure they direct you to the pages specifically related to the specialty.
