Applications to study medicine are handled by
UCAS. The closing date for studying in September 2011 is 15 October 2010. UCAS lists all the medical degrees available in the UK and the minimum entry requirements. All applicants will be required to demonstrate a high level of English language ability, criminal records clearance and non-academic ability.
A growing number of medical schools offer a four-year fast track course for applicants who already have a degree. These courses have an important role to play in widening access routes into medicine - for example, for those who may not have aspired to a medical degree earlier or for people from a wider social and ethnic background. Some schools do specify that they only accept students with a science background; others have more broad entry requirements which will be listed on the School website. The Admissions department at the Medical School the applicant hopes to attend may also be able to give you more detailed advice.
Individual institutions are responsible for all aspects of selection and admission. As a result, entry requirements do vary between each Medical School. It is advised that applicants contact their preferred School or
UCAS to seek clarification on their particular entry requirements.
