The Medical Schools Council survey of staffing levels as at 31 July 2008 reveals an increase in total staffing levels for the second consecutive year, to a total of 3032 FTE. Members are encouraged by the 6% increase in the number of Clinical Lecturers in post. However, there are concerns that 58% of the clinical academic workforce are now aged over 46, compared with 54% in 2004.
NOTE: Please be advised of an inaccuracy in the text on page 21 of the Medical Schools Council report. Figures 22-26 are accurate, such that overall 36% of female clinical academics hold a CEA at some level compared with 59& of all male clinical academics; 17% of female clinical academics hold a CEA at Bronze or above, or at B, A or A+ level, compared with 34% of male clinical academics.
