Increase in the number of clinical academics in UK medical schools - survey released today
The Medical Schools Council has today released its annual survey of clinical academic staffing levels in UK medical schools. We are pleased to announce an increase in the number of clinical professors, senior lecturers and lecturers during the 2009 – 2010 academic year to 3175 Full Time Equivalents. The increase provides evidence that sustained investment in early career grades is enabling more medical trainees to enter the clinical academic pathway.
Despite this, there are still some areas of concern including the under-representation of women at senior clinical academic grades and low staffing levels in some specialties.
