Clinical Academic Staffing Levels
18/05/2009

The Medical Schools Council has published its Survey of Clinical Academic Staffing Levels as at 31 July 2008. The data indicates an increase in staffing level for the second consecutive year, to a total of 3032 FTE. The greatest increase is at Lecturer grade (5%). 58% of the current clinical academic workforce is aged 46 and over, compared with 53% in 2004. Despite encouraging signs that the decline reported in previous publications may be halted, the data reveal concerning trends in some medical specialties.
