The conference was held on 20 May 2011 at Woburn House, London and co-chaired by Dr Giles Davidson, Medical School Secretary for Hull York Medical School and Peter Pimblett-Denis, Medical School Secretary for Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
The conference focused on calibrating the threshold for student fitness to practise, with an emphasis on dealing with low level concerns. The day began with an analysis of the
SFtP information in the 2010 enhanced annual return, presented by Clare Owen, Policy Analyst, Education Directorate, GMC. This was followed by a session on
thresholds for FtP by Toni Smerdon, Principal Legal Adviser, GMC and group work on determining the thresholds for SFtP based on case studies suggested by delegates. A further session on a
SFtP Investigations Toolkit led by Professor Tim David of the University of Manchester took place after groups gave feedback on the case studies.
